Keep Sailing

They say when you run a small business that you should try and plan for everything, to make sure your business can carry on sailing through the wildest of storms. However, when the storm came in the form of Covid 19, there was no amount of planning that could have prepared Earland Brothers for this gale.

Like the rest of the UK we are staying at home and doing our bit to try and stop the spread of the virus. All of our weekly markets have understandably been closed to non-grocery traders, so for the first time since 1987 our vans are parked up and we have had some time to catch up on everything in the office and at home.

Being in week 4 of “Lockdown” we have got quite used to routine of having no routine! Both of us can’t stand sitting down and doing nothing so we have been spring cleaning and sorting out all the stock. We are also very fortunate to live on a small farm in South Leicestershire, so there has been plenty of farm work to keep us busy too. The farm has never looked so tidy with all the trimmed hedges, fixed fencing and even a new pond.

With a feeling that we may be locked down for a few more weeks yet we are very thankful that we still have our online business up and running, which is helping the business tick over. Trade is hard but there are many other businesses in worse situations that us. Supporting local businesses has never been so important, every purchase you make with an independent business will help them keep afloat.

We will ride this storm, we will be trading again soon and as Her Majesty said “we will meet again”.

For now though we’re enjoying time with our families and keeping positive, we hope you can too.

Best wishes,

Andrew and Richard

The Earland Brothers
