A Harris History Lesson
Harris tweed is an intricate hand woven woollen cloth from the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The tweed has been made for centuries by the islanders of Lewis and Harris, originally for protection from the icy winds of northern Scotland.
By the 18th century the weaving of the tweed had become a staple industry for the islands, as the tweed became a popular choice of fabric among the aristocracy of the time, including members of Queen Victoria’s inner circle.
The trade boomed and in 1966 7.6 million yard of Harris Tweed was produced!

Having visited our suppliers this week we have been offered new cloths that we will be be making in our current range of hats, plus some new shapes – these will be available from July 2017.
